Harden Furniture Solid Cherry Semainier or Lingerie Chest With Brass Hardware

This traditional style 7 drawer chest by Harden Furniture features Queen Anne Chippendale brass bail pulls, ogee bracket feet, and a decorative shell or fan relief carving. The upper drawer is lined with velvet and divided into several small compartments, intended for jewelry storage.

"Semainier" derives from the French word for week, "semaine," and refers to a tall, narrow seven drawer chest-- one for each day of the week! Harden semainiers like this one are also commonly described as lingerie chests.

Harden Furniture was founded in 1844 by Charles S. Harden. The New York based company manufactured high end furniture for 175 years, at one point described as one of the oldest family owned and operated furniture companies in the United States. Harden closed its doors in 2018, but its timeless, prime quality furniture is still sought after by collectors today.
