Masaaki Noda was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, and graduated from the Osaka University of Arts. In 1977, he immigrated to New York City on a scholarship to the Art Students League, seeking to escape restrictive cultural conventions and pursue open artistic expression. While his printmaking, paintings, and large-scale public stainless steel sculptures are deeply rooted in Western abstraction and American Op-Art, his work maintains a unique spiritual response to nature, visual delicacy, and precision reflective of his Japanese heritage
